Album Monday

Album Monday April 18, 2016 Wavves’ Afraid of Heights

Wavves is a band that I just stumbled upon while watching music videos one day. I bought two of their albums Afraid Of Heights and V.  Today I’ll will be reviewing Afraid of Heights. Afraid of Heights is Wavves fourth album that was released on March 26, 2013. The album has 13 tracks on it with the bonus track “Hippies is Punks” if you buy it on ITunes. The total play time without the bonus track is just about 42 mins.  This whole album is my perfect “summer album” it reminds me of the beach with surf rock  sound and what I’ll just call party punk. My favorite songs off this album are “Sail to the Sun”, “Demon to Lean On”, and “Gimmie a Knife”.  “Sail to the Sun” has a sort of “Y.O.L.O” vibe to it with the repeating idea that we all just die alone in the end so we mine as well make the best of being with people now.  A “Demon to Lean On” is just a fun song to sing aloud, with some pretty dark lyrics but a sort of upbeat tone you’ll definitely get some weird looks. “Gimmie a Knife” is about well I’m not really sure but it sounds awesome. This album is an awesome album if you like a sort of edgy drug induced music like I do.

Album Monday April 11, 2016 FIDLAR’s FIDLAR

The album FIDLAR was released by the band FIDLAR back in January 2013. It was released as the band’s first studio album. The whole album achieves its intended skate punk vibe. I love skating while listening this album and seems like something straight out of a skate part. The album has 14 songs. The album includes song “Awkward” if you bought the album digitally through ITunes. The total album length is 39 minutes exactly if you exclude the 4 second 3 minute long bonus track. The bands and albums name is an acronym for the saying “F**k it Dad, Life’s a Risk” and this album is an awesome representation of that mentality, with songs like “Cheap Beer”, “Cocaine”, “Wake, Bake, Skate”. If you like real punk feels (none of that soft punk bs) then this album is perfect for you. The album has a great flow to it and the songs are perfectly laid out. They really isn’t a bad song but the most memorable for me and the ones that get stuck in my head the most are “Cheap Beer” and “Gimmie Something”. The “hook” in “Cheap Beer” of “I drink cheap beer, so what fuck you” is just awesome and I can’t help but flip the bird when it I hear it. “Gimmi Something”‘s hook of ” Hey come on gimmie something” is just good. All in all I think this is one of my favorite albums. It’s just such a party the entire way through.
